I've got about as much in common with trust fund hippies as I do with authentic pickers and/or grinners. Which is to say, not much. (Do bluegrass players have to count, by the way?)
I'm finding YouTube is a really great tool for looking around and watching and listening to people play. Really fascinating to see what works, what doesn't. I was watching that Canadian dude playing some other tune, one I happen to know, still using his same chord progression and even plinking out a simple melody at one point, completely unimpressive playing, but nice enough. Next I watched some kid crank through the same tune as quick as he could, hitting all the notes, but sounding like a fucking robot. There's something ineffable in there, man. I like on all these videos that I can watch people's hands too. Maybe one day, I'll figure out how they make so many things happen without seeming to move their fingers. Anyway. Wish I had all day to just fuck around with this sort of thing.
