Word is he had a drug problem, though this is likely still unintentional. Probably the front-runner for best actor of his generation, lost. I totally agree with your assessment of him in Brokeback. It's his understatement and embarrassment in that role that make it all so heartbreaking. |

An actor's actor, to be sure. Apparently, according to all I've read, took his craft extremely seriously, and was well on the way to hanging comfortably with the likes of Depp-level guys and gals.
I'm biased, but what a catastrophic loss. Dana's obit, god help me, is pretty good. Course she loved Brokeback, amazingly. Although here lately I would've expected her to say something like, "Brokeback Mountain is a very good movie. But at times it's just too gay."
He struggled with heroin, was it? |

the heroin addiction, I mean. I saw that somewhere today too, and I'm wondering how much of that is rumour or speculation. The fact that the guy was an A-list actor yet lived in NYC says a lot about his regard for Hollywood and that whole scene. |

Apparently, the woman who found him made three calls to Mary-Kate Olsen before calling 911.
????
Mary-Kate Olsen????

Evidently the masseuse was unlicensed, which is a criminal offense in New York. He dated M-K for a while and the claim I read was that the masseuse knew M-K had security people in NYC and suspected they might get there faster (and indeed, some Olsen goon apparently arrived at the same time as the paras.) Damn strange, ain't it? |
