Caspian Sees.

Keifus:

What a great review.  Loved reading every word of it. I was late to Narnia, didn't read it until I was an adult. And I found the prose a tad too precious, and the storylines like all rehashed dumbed-down Tolkien.  Nevertheless, I bought the whole series for my daughter, who thinks them tedious. I completely agree vis a vis the movies -- maybe it's because I don't have an emotional relationship to the books I can appreciate them as independent works. Are they true to the spirit? Maybe. Are the departures from the books significant, yes.  But they still do raise some ethical questions, albeit they are perhaps disposed of too neatly.

Love the casting of the Italian actors as Telmarines -- they were superb and just a wee bit exotic. Your daughter must be adorable -- the camera loves little Ms. Henley.

Re: Caspian Sees.

I think I'm similarly dis-invested for having not re-read it for 25 years.  I've lost too much fine detail for purism.

Tried to get the kids into the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe, but they also bounced off of it, definitely too precious.  The tone varied between books though (or so I remember), and I liked the sequels better even back then.

(So adorable I don't know where she comes from.  Maybe I'll dig out a picture later.  This ain't quite as public as other places.)
