Sex and the City (SPOILERS)

I saw it Monday night.  The theater was full of women who came with other women, like I did.  I got the medium popcorn, buttered ($6.75! My God!) Overall, it was about what I expected, which wasn't much.  Completely indulgent trashy trash.  There was only one thing they got right in the whole movie; how after a major breakup all you want to do is sleep.  You can sleep for days, weeks even.   {and I went to sleep right after coming home from seeing this movie, too}

Other than that, SJP is entirely too thin, although she has terrific legs.  She looked like a witch in that bridal gown.  She looked like a witch throughout the movie, actually - her features are too severe and angular to wear her hair pulled back so tightly.  Other things:  totally asinine plot.  Big can't get ahold of Carrie before the wedding so he watches her arrive in the limo (watches from his own  limo)- and just because she doesn't turn around and see him he decides he can't go through with it?   Steve (I can't STAND this guy!) looks more like Radar O'Reilly than ever, and that whole "I slept with someone else" thing was contrived and ridiculous.  Plus, did we really have to witness his and Miranda's flagrante delicto from the rear?  Ugh.  I couldn't stand the sex scenes, they made me cringe.  Another thing:  the two gay guys in the movie:  no way they would have ever made out like that.  They were totally wrong for each other.  And all of Jennifer Hudson's scenes should've been left on the cutting room floor.  And lastly, don't any of these women have any family?  No Mothers or Fathers invited to their weddings,  to walk them down the aisle, when they marry, no sisters or brothers?  Are they all single, parent-less, sibling-less?

I give it a C-.  But then again, beings that I hate women, you should probably read someone else's less biased review.

Re: Sex and the City (SPOILERS)

Something that's notable that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere is that it kind of turns gender stereotypes on their head that a movie with a title like Sex and the City would appeal exclusively to women.

well, if they were trying to appeal exclusively to men, it would have been titled sex with the city.  and been released to a different sort of theater.

Re: Sex and the City (SPOILERS)
Well, David Edelstein (sp?) gave it a decent if somewhat bland and uncommitted review. So there's that. He said the magazine he writes for, New York, asked its (male) readers to send in a list of things they'd rather do than sit through the movie. The answers apparently varied from eating someone else's booger to being mauled by Michael Vick's pitbulls.

I should probably mention that I briefly dated a girl who thought sitting through Season 1 in its entirety would make a fun 2nd date. I remember thinking at some point, around episode 7 or 8, "Oh, so this is what hell is like. Neat!"

Re: Sex and the City (SPOILERS)

I have such a love-hate relationship with this series.  30 minutes was perfect -- a little treat I didn't have to worry about taking seriously. A full-length film (poor switters!) sounds like hell to me to.

Also I'm so bothered that 10 years later, none of these people grow up. At least not enough to know how to dress themselves without looking ridiculous. Note -- as you age, you need to put on some weight to keep your skin from looking saggy and haggard. Sara Jessica Parker is charming and has lovely eyes, and in the stills I've seen she looks horrid.

That said, I still want to see it.  My kind of escapist fantasy involves Louboutins and Dolce & Gabbana.
