I think the obvious solution is...

...to visit people more.  And bring a gift.

In my case, I found that babies stoppered the thirsty visits pretty effectively, and also made the bottle collection a lot more susceptible to its intended mind-numbing use (only not by guests).  May fate be kinder to you.

Just the same, we've still got some 11-year-old bottles of Chambourd, Creme de Menthe and similar revolting crap still taking up space.

And if it makes you feel any better...

My parents just left a few hours ago.  They managed to leave behind a barely touched bottle of "limoncello" cooling nicely on my back porch (along with some welcome beers).   That bottle was deposited just this Thanksgiving, donated there by some remote cousin. I don't know if she had brought it in new and fresh.  I don't think so.

My daughter arranged the bar bottles by height recently.  (I may have to lock them up in five or ten years, but if they ever decide to steal my Applejack to get drunk, I'm sure they'll get the retribution that's coming to them.)  I think the limoncello, pretty tall, is going to be on teh far right.  Maybe for another 11 years.
