on quitting smoking

the toughest part is you will never, never, never stop wanting a cigarette.  oh, the constant urge will fade, eventually.  if you make it past three weeks, you're past the worst of it.  but the desire will never go away.  because, let's face it, despite the fact it will eventually kill you and is highly addictive, smoking is also damn enjoyable.  i quit for a five year stretch, myself.  now, the only reason i don't smoke cigarettes anymore is because i smoke pipes instead.

don't mean to be discouraging.  it's just very difficult.  best of luck to you.

Re: on quitting smoking

I know.  I'd love to be one of those people who can have a smoke now and then for social reasons, and not immediately go back to being a pack and a half a day guy.  (Almost five hundred bucks a month, that adds up to -- fucking insane.)  My wife is like that (can smoke here and there and not be hooked) and it fills me with bitter envy.

Anyway, it's not the health thing -- the main reason I'm quitting is so that we can afford for me to quit my job and be a stay-at-home dad/full-time writer.  Also the inconvenience, and the irritation of being chained to the stupid things.  The health thing -- enh, I'm going to die anyway.  That's last on the list.

If the money ever starts really rolling in, though...

Re: on quitting smoking

hey, pipes are cheaper, once you make the intial investment.  [grin]  i understand the money thing though.  they are expensive.  specially since you have good taste.

again, best of luck.  i couldn't do it, but then i never really wanted to either.

Went to a hypnotist

13 years ago.  Haven't had a cigarette since.   I will have a cigar once in a while, though.

I quit for my kids.
